U15 Boys Finalist in Springfield

Our U15 Boys competed the SASA Lincolnland Invitational in Springfield on March 22-23 and went 2-0-1 during first round group play to advance to the final. Despite 20 degree weather and what felt like 40-50 mile per hour winds the boys stuck to their game and showed off some great soccer. In their first game, Dylan TerMolen and Sam Blustein led the way to a  2-0 victory over the Croatian Eagles from Wisconsin. They were held scoreless against Astra from Illinois in their second game, resulting in a 0-0 tie. For their final game, Steven Ibarra took charge and provided the team with the lone goal against Legacy Navy from Illinois ultimately advancing them to the final. There they went up against a tough SASA Spirits team and were defeated 1-0 to give them second place in the tournament and an overall record of 2-1-1.

They started off on Saturday with a tie against an Oregon team ranked 6th in their state and a tough 2-1 loss against a team ranked 8th in northern California, but came back on Sunday to destroy an all-star team from Australia 6-0 and continued their winning streak into Monday by defeating CAP FC United from California 2-1.

Our U14 boys competed in the East division and were able to secure 2nd place with an overall record of 3-1, only a single point separating them from first place. In the first game, the boys came out strong and secured a quick, 4-0 victory over a California team, Valley YSL Arsenal. In their later game, they fell 3-2 in a heartbreaker against the tough tournament champions, Downtown LVSC 01 Academy. For the remainder of the weekend, the boys shut out the competition, beating the final two teams with a score of 3-0 in both games.

U15 Boys Premier

Our U15 boys kicked off the tournament with an outstanding first day, destroying a Nevada team, Sparks Legacy 6-1 and a California club 2-1. The following day they were sent straight to the quarterfinals, where they had an exciting game against Cook Inlet Velocity Blue from Alaska and lost 3-2. In their final competition of the tournament, the boys came out tough against Arsenal Colorado Gold (ranked 11th in Colorado) and defeated them 2-1. With this victory, they were able to get first in the Adidas bracket.

U16 Boys Premier

Our U16 boys started the tournament weekend facing two extremely competitive teams, resulting in two ties on Saturday. On Sunday they played Canada's Southwest United Sports Edmonton SWU 98 and secured a victory to push them ahead to the final game on Monday against the Colorado Rapids. On Monday, the boys held onto their winning streak and shut out Colorado with a final score of 1-0, securing them 2nd place in their bracket.

U16 Girls Select - Champions

What a great weekend of soccer for the Team Evanston girls’ program!

First off, for those of you that traveled to St. Louis this weekend, I hope you had a safe trip home yesterday.

Next, I’d like to congratulate all the girls on their solid performance this weekend at one of the most prestigious tournaments in the Midwest region.  Over 350 teams from Illinois, Kansas, Wisconsin, Missouri, Ohio, and Iowa clashed at the SLSG Girls Fall Classic to showcase their skills in front of numerous college coaches.  I attended many games at the tournament this weekend and I was thrilled by the effort and commitment that our girls showed on the field as well as their positivity and demeanor off the field.

While all of our teams played very well within their competitive groups and were challenged to bring out their best this weekend, I’d like to highlight the Girls U16 Select Team, who won all of their games on their way to becoming champions of their bracket.  Congratulations girls!

Lastly, I’d like to express a HUGE THANK YOU to the families for your ongoing support and dedication to Team Evanston.

Yours in soccer,

Issac Moushi

After going 2-1 through the tournament and advancing the to the championship game the girls were ultimately defeated to become the tournament runner-up. Bruce thought that the girls were the most talented and hard working group at the tournament and went home with the U10 girls. Congratulation girls!
