Age-Appropriate Player Development
Team Evanston is a competitive, community-based soccer club serving approximately 250 boys and girls on over 20+ teams from ages U5 through U12; most age/gender groups have at least 2 teams allowing the club to serve players at all levels. The mission of the club is to “foster the love of soccer and encourage personal growth from lessons learned through training and competition.”
All Pre-Travel (U5-U7) through U12 teams play as Team Evanston utilizing a technical curriculum designed by the Chicago Fire Academy. Following the US Youth Soccer Development Model, the program emphasizes technical development (ball skills, creativity, experimentation), attacking and defending principles of play that rotate players through multiple positions. Formations and game strategies are simplified to be age-appropriate and to encourage positive individual habits, valuing player development over team rankings. Much of the focus is on motivating kids to become the best they can be, both on and off the fields – and learning to live the Team Evanston Core Values. To foster every kid’s personal development, Team Evanston coaches ensure that all players play a minimum of 50% playing time over the course of a season.
At U13 and older ages, Team Evanston becomes Chicago Fire Juniors North Shore, which – in addition to moving to 11v11 soccer games - offers more core and supplemental training, and the opportunity to compete at the highest competitive levels in youth soccer.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS OFFER SOCCER OPPORTUNITIES TO MATCH YOUR NEEDS
Team Evanston offers positive, professional coaching for players 5 to 12 years old. We compete in local competitive leagues where teams are placed by ability and geography. If your player is 13-19 years old, then please see our opportunities at Chicago Fire Juniors North Shore.
Players who are interested in joining Team Evanston should contact email@example.com to learn about how they can come to a training session or a tryout for an evaluation. Once players are offered a place on a team from the club, then players will be sent information on the registration process.
Families who would like to apply for financial aid can do so during the registration process. Team Evanston’s Goal4Good program supports families in need of financial assistance.
Families interested in donating to our Goal4Good program can do so through our website. Evanston Soccer Association is a 501(c)(3), and donations are tax deductible.
Training schedules are released in July for the fall season, in November for the winter season, and in February for the spring season. This is at least 1 month in advance of that season’s games. Game schedules are released in August, December, and March after the coaches attend each league’s scheduling meeting. All times and locations are placed in TeamSnap, an app that families can download to receive club communication and schedules.
Players are evaluated at Tryouts or in a training session by our professionally certified coaching staff. The coaching staff discusses the placement of players to ensure a correct placement that is judged to benefit the players' development. An age group director of coaching oversees the placement of players and the creation of teams.
